Gdansk University of Technology is just beginning the implementation of the ministerial program entitled "Initiative of Excellence - Research University". Our University took second place in the prestigious competition of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, thus obtaining the status of a research university. We have been recognized as the best technical university in the country. Thanks to special funding for seven years, Gdansk University of Technology will be able to put even more emphasis on the development of the most promising directions of scientific research.
Winning in this competition is a huge prestige and opportunity for the entire academic community of the Gdansk University of Technology, also for the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. We are fully aware that the implementation of the "Initiative of Excellence - Research University" project will require special commitment and increased work. We are ready to take on these challenges. In 2018, we started implementing the Faculty's Development Strategy for 2018-2024, where we defined our vision and goals, already indicating the way to achieve the Faculty's scientific excellence required by research universities.
According to the Strategy, our mission is to actively participate in the implementation of innovative projects supporting civilization changes, in particular those related to the environment and the quality of human life. In pursuing these goals, we focus on continuing the strong traditions of the Faculty (established in 1904) as one of the first faculties of the Gdańsk University of Technology. We would like to develop its identity in such a way that both employees and students strongly identify with this unique place of work and study, as well as with the values we create together.
At the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, we conduct scientific research in two disciplines. The first is civil engineering and transport, the second - environmental engineering, mining and energetics. We educate students in four fields: civil engineering, environmental engineering, transport, geodesy and cartography. The first two of these courses are also provided in English. We are open to new trends and needs related to the internationalization of science, striving for the Faculty to become a scientific and didactic unit with a strong international position. We are convinced that both obtaining the status of a research university by the Gdansk University of Technology and the implementation of the Development Strategy of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering for 2018-2024 will not only allow us to improve the quality of research and education, but will also contribute to a significant increase in the recognition and competitiveness of our Faculty in Poland and abroad.
