Gdansk and Pardubice City continue their excellent cooperation

group of people
As part of the long-standing cooperation between the Department of Transport Engineering of the Gdansk University of Technology and the Department of Communication Structures of the University of Pardubice, at the end of 2023 our university was visited by Drs. Vladislav Borecký and Pavel Lopour from the Czech Republic. Earlier, the Gdańsk University of Technology was visited by Petr Vnenk, PhD, Eng., and in April 2023, Jacek Szmagliński, PhD, Eng., went to the Czech Republic.

Vladislav Borecký and Pavel Lopour are involved in the diagnostics of road and railway surfaces in their scientific work. As part of the visit to the Gdańsk University of Technology, the researchers conducted a series of lectures for students of the second degree of Civil Engineering specialising in Road Engineering. Vladislav Borecký presented the subject of non-destuctive diagnostics of transport structures using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)"  Pavel Lopour focused his lectures on non-destructive testing of pavement bearing capacity with the FWD dynamic deflection meter: "Chosen aspects of Diagnostic of Roads/Pavements – Surface Characteristic and Bearing Capacity Assessment (FWD)" and "Traffic survey (focus to Pardubice City)". The visit of our colleagues from the Czech Republic was a good opportunity to present the research offer of the Road Construction Team of the Department of Transport Engineering. The Guests from Czech Republic visited the Road Engineering Laboratory and the Road Research Laboratory operating within the structures of the Division. Of particular interest was the research vehicle with the LCMS-2 system , which was discussed by Marek Pszczoła, PhD, DSc, Eng., prof. Gdańsk Tech. It was possible to see the research vehicle in detail along with a presentation of the computer system with data analysis software. The vehicle is used for diagnostic assessment of the condition of the pavement, which is in line with the subject of the visitors' research work. Cezary Szydłowski, Ph.D., Eng., showed the guests around the Road Research Laboratory and presented the research possibilities. Jacek Szmagliński, Ph.D., Eng., familiarized the visitors with the research capabilities of the Railway Engineering Group. Piotr Jaskuła, PhD, DSc, Eng., Associate Professor of Gdańsk Tech, gave a presentation of the research and teaching activities of the Department. In addition to the scientific part, the time spent together was also used to get to know the nooks and crannies of the Gdańsk University of Technology campus and the charms of the Gdansk City in Poland.
