University alliance. Goal: protection of nature and urbanized areas

Train
This is how we should describe the cooperation between the Consortium of the Gdansk University of Technology and the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. This unique city-to-city(Gdansk & Wroclaw)research project with the acronym InfraNoise is carried out under the title " A system for precise monitoring of the impact of railway traffic on the environment, including information on traffic, technical and environmental data. The competition was launched as part of the BRIK II cooperation. It involves supporting scientific research and development work in the area of railway infrastructure: "Research and Development in Railway Infrastructure". The whole thing is supervised by the National Center for Research and Development (NCBR) and PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. (PKP PLK S.A.).

The InfraNoise project concerns an extremely important problem related to the protection of the environment, as well as urban areas occurring in the immediate vicinity of the railway infrastructure, noise and vibration. As part of this project, the consortium is developing an innovative measurement and analytical system for monitoring a number of traffic, technical and environmental parameters important from the point of view of railway infrastructure management. The system being developed will have the structure of a distributed area sensor network, within which individual measurement nodes communicate with the system coordinator, and the recorded data on train traffic will be processed for the purposes of identifying and assessing the occurring impacts. A wide spectrum of factors related to the movement of rolling stock, as well as the characteristics of rail roads, requires the research team to implement a number of algorithms enabling effective data acquisition and processing in the IT database structure.

The Leader's R&D team is an interdisciplinary team of employees of the Faculties of Civil and Environmental Engineering (implementing unit) and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Automation of the Gdansk University of Technology.
