Plan-B project and international meeting at Gdańsk Tech

PLAN B
A meeting as part of the PLAN-B project was held at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The main topic of the talks was the impact of light pollution on ecosystems and biodiversity in Gdańsk City.

So far, the four-year, multidisciplinary research has been coordinated by the University of Ghent. Now, at the Gdańsk University of Technology, the project will be implemented by the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The project managers at GUT are: Dr. Eng. Paweł Tysiąc (WILiŚ) and Dr. Eng. arch. Karolina M. Zielińska-Dąbkowska (WA), who was invited to cooperate by the consortium members and wrote the winning application together with them. As emphasized by Dr. Eng. arch. K.M. Zielińska-Dąbkowska, the implementation of the multidisciplinary PLAN-B project is intended to provide better understanding and support for reducing the impact of artificial light and noise pollution on terrestrial biodiversity and ecosystem services. Moreover, it is intended to help create conditions conducive to supporting and improving the actions planned in the EU biodiversity strategy and to provide a new path to achieving international goals in this area. The project involves cooperation with partners from Europe and around the world (including Brazil), key networks (e.g. Biodiversa+) and with the team implementing the sister project Horizon Europa Aquaplan, concerning biodiversity and aquatic ecosystems. From Poland, in addition to the Gdańsk University of Technology, the City of Gdańsk is participating in the project. The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering had the pleasure of hosting, among others:

Dan E. Nilsson (Lund University)

Reinhard Kleinke (German Center for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv))

Mike Wood (University of Salford)

David H Fletcher (United Kingdom Center for Ecology & Hydrology

Timothy Van Renterghem (Ghent University)
