On November 3-7, 2025, Joanna Kańska, M.Sc., Eng., took part in a training course entitled “Workshop on the Use of GNSS Data for Ionospheric Monitoring and Modelling” in Rome.

The event was organized by, among others, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics and the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia. The workshop provided an introduction to GNSS, ionospheric physics, space weather, and its impact on technological systems. Emphasis was placed on the use of GNSS data for ionospheric monitoring and modeling, in particular through the analysis of total electron content (TEC) in the ionosphere.

Understanding ionospheric variability is crucial for enhancing the reliability of satellite-based technologies, such as navigation, communication, and positioning systems. Furthermore, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)-based monitoring offers a valuable method for studying how space weather impacts the Earth's ionosphere. By exploiting GNSS data analysis, we can overcome current limitations in modeling ionospheric behavior, benefiting both scientific research and practical applications.

The study of the ionospheric variability using GNSS is the subject of Joanna Kańska's doctoral thesis.
