The aim of the wyKOMBinuj mOst competition is to involve students in creating their own engineering structures. So far, fourteen editions have been held in 2008-2021. In addition to representatives of the faculties of the Gdańsk University of Technology, teams representing technical universities and secondary schools from all over Poland also took part. This year, the fifteenth anniversary edition of the event will take place!
The rules of the competition are as follows: teams of three have to build a bridge with a span of 100 cm, having only paper and glue at disposal. Teams have seven hours to construct the model, which is then assessed against established criteria. The load capacity of the structure (measured with a Zwick testing machine) and its weight are taken into account. The team that builds the structure with the best strength-to-weight ratio wins. The competition record was set by the team from the Warsaw University of Technology - their winning bridge, weighing just over 1 kg, carried more than 320 kg! Our goal is to show students that the knowledge they acquire during their studies can be used for fun. At the same time, we want to reward those who show an engineering sense and efficiently use the materials provided. As part of the competition, a conference is also organized, during which students present their own papers on civil engineering. Student Scientific Conference on Civil Engineering KOMBOferencja (this is the name of the event) has gained the status of a full-fledged nationwide conference thanks to the involvement of the organizers. This year, the seventh edition of the event will take place - more information can be found at a conference website (PL).
