The article Biomass in biogas production: pretreatment and codigestion published

Green technologies
We are pleased to announce that the article prepared by the team of Archan Kasinath, Sylwia Fudala-Książek, Małgorzata Szopińska, Hubert Byliński, Wojciech Artichowicz, Anna Remiszewska-Skwarek and Aneta Łuczkiewicz entitled: Biomass in biogas production: pretreatment and codigestion, is published in the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews jornal with an impact factor IF = 14,982.

The article discusses issues related to energy recovery through the integrated processing of waste biomass in the process of anaerobic digestion. Biogas can be produced from agricultural waste, organic fraction of municipal waste or industrial waste, or from the so-called locally available sustainable biomass. However, in many cases, the efficiency of methane production in conventional fermentation systems is still not profitable.

Project from our Faculty has been qualified for funding

Dr AngelikaAndrzejewska
The ranking list of activities qualified for funding under the MINIATURE 5 competition organized by the National Science Center was announced 16th August 2021.

We are pleased to announce that a positive opinion was given to the conclusion: Assessment of the impact of selected sterilization methods on changes in the mechanical behavior of porous structures shaped by fused deposition modeling techniques from hybrid polymers and subjected to hydrolytic degradation in simulated conditions, submitted by Ph.D. Eng. Angela Andrzejewska from the Department of Mechanics of Materials and Stuctures.

Our student from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering is completing an internship in the United Arab Emirates

internship
Mateusz Mazur (civil engineering student from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Gdańsk Tech) is undergoing a paid internship at Keller Middle East Africa in the United Arab Emirates.

“Working abroad in an international company like Keller offers a lot of new opportunities. Daily interaction with people from all over the world allows not only to exchange industry information, but also to learn about other cultures and customs. Openness and cordiality of colleagues gives the office a very pleasant atmosphere. During the internship, I get acquainted with both the theoretical foundations of the subsoil strengthening technology and related design calculations.

More candidates than last year, even a dozen people per place

Students
The largest number of applications in total was recorded in IT and civil engineering. In turn, economy; spatial management; business analysis; automatics, cybernetics and robotics as well as yacht design and construction are the top five most popular fields of study at Gdańsk University of Technology in the admission procedure for the academic year 2021/2022.  In total, even more candidates applied for a place in full-time first-cycle studies at Gdańsk Tech than in the previous year - over 23,000 people.

Gdańsk University of Technology is one of the most frequently chosen technical universities in the country. This is confirmed by the admission results for the academic year 2021/2022. There were even more applications for full-time first-cycle studies than last year, as many as 23,127 (22,999 applications were registered during last year's recruitment), and 1,261 people applied for a place in part-time studies.

Organization of education in the academic year 2021/2022

PG Gmach
The 2021/2022 academic year at Gdańsk University of Technology will start on October 1. Intending to gradually restore the normal functioning of the university and taking into account the current epidemic situation in the country, the authorities of Gdańsk University of Technology decided that the classes at the university would be carried out in a hybrid mode: stationary and remote, with a predominance of stationary form.

The basic form of conducting classes will be stationary, but lectures in large groups should be held remotely - in this case, the decisions will be made by the deans of the faculties.

Deans will define the list of classes that will be carried out in a remote or mixed (hybrid) manner on an ongoing basis, and information on this subject is to be posted on the faculty websites.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology invites Polish scientists to apply for a mobility grant

Funds
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) invites Polish scientists to apply for a mobility grant under the MIT-Poland Lockheed Martin Fund. The aim of the program is to enable the establishment and development of cooperation between MIT departments and Polish counterparts.

Although applications are accepted from all disciplines, this year’s priority area is Advanced Materials and Manufacturing. This includes, but is not limited to:

wyKOMBinuj mOst

The aim of the wyKOMBinuj mOst competition is to involve students in creating their own engineering structures. So far, fourteen editions have been held in 2008-2021. In addition to representatives of the faculties of the Gdańsk University of Technology, teams representing technical universities and secondary schools from all over Poland also took part. This year, the fifteenth anniversary edition of the event will take place!
